In 2009, Lionel Perez was elected as a city councillor in the district of Darlington in the Côte-des-Neiges—Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough with a 1,200-vote majority over his nearest opponent. He was elected borough mayor through acclamation on November 23, 2012, filling the position made vacant. Mr. Perez sits on the Montréal Agglomeration Council and chairs the Commission on the Examination of Contracts. He has shown his character by intervening against the use of abusive language on Twitter during sessions of the municipal council, which has since resulted in council policy changes.
